The official record is elsewhere

Where a figure here derives from a published Election Commission document, that publication is the authority. If the two differ, the Commission is right and we are wrong. A figure taken from this site should never be cited as certification of a result.

Known limits of the data

Compiled electoral data carries real defects, and the properties publish them rather than hide them:

• Constituency numbers are reassigned at delimitation, so the same name can refer to different boundaries in different years, and the same seat can appear under two numbers.
• Some source columns were never resolved to a party name during ingest. They are shown as unresolved columns, in a neutral colour, rather than guessed at or dropped — dropping them would understate the totals they belong to.
• Some figures do not exist in the source at all. NOTA before 2013 and polling dates for most contests before 2005 are shown as absent, with the reason, rather than as zero.
• Party names are spelled differently between source databases, so a party can read slightly differently on two pages.

Reporting an error

Corrections are welcome and wanted. The contact route is recorded on the operator register, which also states plainly that no grievance officer has been appointed and no response time is committed to.
